I had a vasectomy almost 10 years ago. I've recently remarried and would like to start a family with my new wife. What are the chances of getting her pregnant after a vasectomy reversal? Is there a chance the procedure won't be successful?
Success of vasectomy reversal, i.e. term pregnancy conceived within one year of reversal, depends on the amount of time between vasectomy and reversal....and the age of your new partner. Based on 10-year interval, success at one year can be around 44 percent. Again, timing, follow up beyond one year and maternal age will all contribute to this estimate.

The chances of getting your partner pregnant are 60-70%, and chances of a successful vasectomy reversal are 90-95%.

Female partner age and the experience of the reversal surgeon are the most important factors. Also of importance is whether you are of proven fertility; meaning, whether you had children or pregnancies prior to the vasectomy. In the hands of experienced microsurgeons, return of sperm rates are over 90% and naturally conceived pregnancy rates are 50-60% depending on female age.
