Vasectomy is one of the most effective forms of male birth control,
providing permanent sterilization by severing the vas deferens (a duct
that carries the sperm from the testicle to the urethra.)
Traditionally a vasectomy
is performed under localized anesthesia, administered through
injections of lidocaine via two needles into both sides of the scrotum,
numbing the area around the vas deferens. Many men avoid vasectomies
because they are afraid of the painful needle stick. No needle vasectomy
uses a high-pressure jet injector to spray the lidocaine directly into
the scrotum, thus avoiding the use of traditional needles.
